Ministry of Education: Levels or Grades of Education

In Guyana, the statutory age for students to begin compulsory education is five years and nine months. With this entry age in mind, students are required to attend school until they are 17 years old. Students in Guyana’s various regions attend public or private schools to fulfill the requirements for compulsory education.

The academic year typically begins in September and concludes in July of the following year. A five-hour school day is observed by students and teachers.
