Preparations are set to begin this year for the rollout of free University education from 2025, according to President Irfaan Ali.
The President made the announcement during his new year’s address to the nation, while highlighting plans for education and other sectors. While he did not offer details surrounding the free university education plan, the president announced that preparations for that move will begin this year.
During an appearance on the E-networks’ Insider TV show, President Ali said the government has already been providing thousands of scholarships under the GOAL initiative, and that will create a more educated workforce.
President Ali said this year’s budget will see funding set aside for major development in the nation’s education sector.
In the 2023 budget, more than $94 billion was allocated for the education sector, with additional funds supplied for the sector in the supplementary budgets.
